Why Jok’n’Al is Diabetic-Friendly

Jok’n’Al Fruit Spreads are designed for people who need to manage their sugar intake, including those with diabetes, as well as anyone seeking lower-calorie alternatives to regular jams. 

  • Lower Calories: Approximately one-quarter of the calories of standard jams. 
  • Low Glycemic Index: Made with Fructose (GI 31), compared to sucrose (white sugar) which has a GI of 89. Foods with a lower GI are absorbed more slowly into the bloodstream, helping to avoid rapid blood sugar spikes.
  • Safe Sweetness: Sweetened with Sucralose, a high-intensity sweetener 600 times sweeter than sugar but with zero calories, no effect on blood glucose, and no aftertaste.
  • Texture & Mouthfeel: Polydextrose is added to give body and spreadability similar to sugar, with only 1 calorie per gram compared to 4 calories per gram in sugar.

A small amount of preservative is used to ensure product safety and shelf-life once opened, as lower-sugar products do not naturally inhibit yeast and mould growth.

Explanation of Fructose

Fructose is a natural fruit sugar and has a glycemic index figure of 31 compared to sucrose (white sugar) which is 89. This means that fructose is absorbed into the blood only one third as fast as sugar, so is far more acceptable in a diabetic diet.
