A Sweet Alternative: Jok’n’Al’s Journey in Low-Sugar Condiments
In the condiment landscape, where sugary options often dominate, Jok’n’Al, a New Zealand-based food producer, stands out as a pioneer in low-sugar innovation. Founded in the late 1990s by John and Alison Howie, the brand revolutionised the market by introducing alternatives to traditional jams, pickles, condiments, savoury sauces, and toppings.
Born from necessity, Jok’n’Al emerged from John’s personal experience with diabetes. Disappointed with the limited availability of flavourful lower-sugar options, John and Alison embarked on a mission to create delicious jams and sauces that didn’t rely on high sugar content. Their dedication to quality and innovation in the reduced-sugar condiment space earned Jok’n’Al recognition over the years.
In November 2022, a new chapter began for Jok’n’Al. Bunga Krataitong, with extensive experience in the food industry, acquired the business from the retiring John and Alison. Bunga’s personal connection to balanced eating further fuelled her passion for the brand. Her late husband, Nuttavut’s battle with illness had highlighted the need for lower-carb and lower-sugar options. Discovering Jok’n’Al’s products during that time solidified her vision for flavourful alternatives.“We found all their products to be exceptional,” Bunga remarked,“I truly admired what John and Alison had built.”
